Shooting for the Stars (and a Penny, Too)

January 17, 2012

Recently, Starbucks raised the price of a tall coffee in New York City to $1.85 — that seems normal, right? Considering the economy and all.

So…what’s bananasss here? A tall coffee at Starbucks now costs $2.01 with tax.

The Starbucks image is smooth, consistent, familiar, and of course, calculated. But this seems like a bit of an oversight.

What’s the point of that extra penny? It definitely won’t help profits in the long-run. It bothers customers. It might even upset employees, who have reportedly been taking pennies out of their own tip jars to help customers with that extra little bit.

Let’s be honest – no one likes to use change anymore, especially pennies. No offense to Abe, but they fatten up your wallet, they weigh down your purse, they get lost in your couch, and they’re generally pretty pointless.

If you’re a tall-coffee-purchaser, I’d invest in a coin purse and start saving those pennies (or maybe just the Starbucks App so you can pay with your iPhone).

C’mon Starbucks, that’s bananasss!!
